Question Mag-Float Leave it in or take it out

For years I have used the Mag-Float glass cleaner.
Do you leave your's in the tank, or do you take it out between uses?
If you take your's out, why?
If you leave it in, why?

I leave mine in. Why remove it? Just put it in the corner.

I leave them.

Mainly because I can.

I don't like putting my hands in the water.

and I use a magnavor 10x If i get the sides stuck together outside of the tank they wont come apart or worse my finger is in the way when they go together somthings gonna break. Without a t-shirt wrapped around the outside magnet I can almost hang from it.

I leave it in. It grows nice coraline. I'm hoping to glue some nice zoos to it soon.

I leave mine in and at a level so that my Needle Nose Hawk has a place to rest!

Some times he doesn’t cooperate!! Sorry but only one set of lights are on so kind of dark.

Make sure to remove it from the tank when it stopped floating.

FWIW, I used to have a cheapo magnet in my tank. Over time the sealing leaks and water went in and it stopped floating. When I remove it the casing split apart and there is full of rust water in there and most of them went into the tank. But fortunately no harm was done.

I would Agree with Navyblue...
It is imperative that you inspect the inside float for cracks in the plastic casing...high dollar or .99 cent store...

the only time I regret is when my son's friends come over. I'm online in the bedroom and I hear this LOUD snapping sound from my aquarium.

I take mine out. I used to leave it in, but I noticed worms etc growing on it. I was worried they were going to scratch the glass. Plus, it's one less thing in the tank.

I take mine out after each for two reasons the first is I hate the look of it I don't no how many times I see a nice tank shot only to have it ruined by an ugly looking mag float stuck to the glass. I find my eye is drawn to it every time. The next and most important is they rust I noticed the corner of the scrub pad had started to lift a little so I pulled it back a bit farther and saw that it was covered in rust under the pad. I told a friend about it and he would not believe me he kept saying it was just mine and it must have been damaged. So I bet him I told him to peel back the pad if it wasn't rusted I would by him a new one so he did and it was covered in rust too. So neither of us keep them in the aquarium. I figure it must leach into the tank if you leave them in.

My tank is acrylic and when I used to leave the magnet in the pad started growing coralline. Afraid that it might scratch the tank now I remove it.
Also I noticed that diatoms and microalgae accumulated in the pad after a cleaning and noticed increased film algae growth so I guess whatever stay in the pad helped spread it back when using it, Now I rinse the pad after each use in tap water and noticed the tank stays clean longer.

The magfloat in my 27 looks like a rock glued to the side of the tank, I keep meaning to clean it but it never seems to happen.

I have a friend that leaves his in and it grows Xenia. So it's hidden anywhere he puts it, and it looks good anyway.

Mine's been in my 90gal for over 4 years now. It is nicely covered in coralline and has more worms and feather dusters growing on it then I can count. I have never had an issue at al with it scratching my tank. On the other hand, I always take my magnetic cleaner out of my acrylic 210gal because these growths can scratch acrylic.

yeah...now that I read that it does sound weird. That surely did come out the way I was thinking it. Hey what can I say it was getting late last night. Here's what I shouldve said:
I don't have the "mag float" branded glass cleaner, but I do leave mine in the tank. top right corner to block the modded mj900.
Hope I cleared up any confussion that my previous statement may have caused.

I opted for the ultra high tech mag cleaner that comes with that fancy fishing line to retrieve the magnet from the bottom of the tank. I also put some brain coral on the bottom to help slow the magnets fall. hahaha I bet all you mag float users are jealious now....i think that I will be buying one a mag float today...now that I think about it.

I have alwasy left mine in the tank aslo. One thing I found out the hard way though. My tank is acrylic, and kids have moved it and got sand in there and scratched it. I now have a sticker that says DO NOT TOUCH on it. and if people or kids are over I tell them not to move it. For some reason people see those magnets and cant resist moving them
