Want ot buy some sort of macro algae to help with hair algae issue..what kind...where

Hey all before cooking my tank 2 months ago I had a real bad HA outbreak. Now the rock is back and the tank looks great. I want to keep it that way...so on top of the new Cleanup crew I wanted to add some macro algae to the sump to help compete witht he HA?? What do I need ot do to the sump for lightning and what type of algae do I buy??

I would use Chaeto over other types... It grows pretty fast, and will use up a lot of your excess nutrients... It won't "melt" down like caulerpa and pollute your tank... Its easy to manage, and won't take over your fuge/tanks... Ask your local club, or there are plenty of people on here that can sell you some... If you can't find any, feel free to send me a PM...

i bought a piece of live rock today at my lfs and it had some macro algae on there

go with chaeto, also like ct vol said check the selling forums on here always people selling it

Now can I just add some to my sump?? Do I need a seperate chamber for it??

you could just float it in the sump, with a light of coarse, but make sure it cant clog any pumps, the best way is a seperate chamber

What kind of light do I need? I heard a cheap home depot light fixture may work??

thats what i use, they have a spriral flourecent light that i think the box is purple, and says 6500k on it, and a cheap socket with a metal reflector,

How long do you gusy leave the light on for?? Is it 24/7?

no, reverse photoperiod stabilizes ph levels which is important

Well I am back from the LFS and got 2 handfuls of macro for 7.99. Went to the Depot and got a bulb w/ fixture and set it up. Hopefully I can help my hair algae issue for under 25.00?!?!? We'll see

worked for me and i also pulled what i could by hand every few days, and i do reverse photo period
