Question 28 days in Help!

Here are my numbers (28 days into the cycle)


85 lbs LR
110 Gallon tank
4 feeder shrimp very small
3 turbo's
1 mutant crab

Salinity 1.029
PH 8.8
Trites 0
Trates 40
Amonia 1.0

I am using an API master saltwater test kit any good???

Lastly, if I do a water change, how much
and I am using R/O water from Big Al's marine store for topoffs

Salinity, Trates and ammonia are high. salinity IMO shoud be 1.025-1.026 max, trates and ammonia should be 0. Switch to Saliferts test kits. I would remove about 20% and replace to RO/DI freshwater to get you salinity down. You really should wait until after your cycle has completed before adding livestock.

Victor,

If you go to Publix and buy the publix brand water they dell R/O water. That will save you a trip to Tamarac everytime you need liquid. WHat equipment have you got on your tank so far?

two (not sure what size) jets for flow
20 gallon tank for the sump with a protein skimmer
no tank cover
lights are off 95% of the time during the cycle

Thanks for the tip on the water.
I get water delivered at my office, I think I'll get extra there and
bring it home.

I would add about 80lbs of base rock too... the 80lbs of live rock you have will be insufficient to filter a 110gal. The base rock will be colonized shortly after introduction and it shouldn't create any ammonia problems.

What you use for salinity test?
