With Hurricane season 2007 around the corner...how do you guys keep your livestock healthy/ alive? when there is no power?

what is the live spand of the system without power...

what does everyone uses?

Yes im new to the hobby and i just started to get into it this year...and im a bit concerned about the bad times with no power

During Wilma, we lost power for i think 7 days. I didnt have a generator or an air pump or anything(great planning by me,huh?!?!). The first 2 days before we got a generator, i literally blew air bubbles thru a straw into my 36g for a few minutes a couple times an hour

Once we got the generator, no problems at all, just hooked it up and ran it during the day and at night had a small air pump from a lfs that opened a few days after the storm.

Without any power, you wont last very long. If the tank is small, an airstone will probably work for at least a few days but a generator is a must imo. You can go without lights but you need some circulation in the tank.

Tank or no, we all really need generators as we found out during Wilma. A REAL storm will knock us off our ridiculous grids for at least a week so be prepared. I'm actually gonna get a 2nd generator just for our new 180g just in case.

thanks for the response...my tank its a 30g ...but my g/f keeps stressing it about "WHAT IF WE HAVE NO POWER FOR DAYS"??? so yeah it is starting to post a concern ...i guess a generator wouldnt be a bad idea...

Generator is definitely a good idea regardless. Not that expensive and its only a matter of time before we will need 1 down here. With just a 30g, you should be able to easily put it on the generator without any problems like i did.

Generator and very careful power usage to insure fuel hourage.

Just so you Floridians don't get all the attention... my 75 gal made it fine through a 4.1 shaker this morning.... phew!

the shakes gotta suck too...i guess no matter where you are you are always bound to encounter a bump on the road huh? lol

Hi all, hopefully we won't get a busy season this year despite their prediction. Hey, they were off last year. I don't mind if they are wrong again this year. Anyway, I am just waiting for the tax break for hurricane supplies and I am gonna get me a generator. I think it is tax free up to a certain amount, right?

well, it is going to be a bad year, hopefull none will hit us, but la nina is creating a stir. Anyway, I believe they make battery backups to get the cicrulation flowing in the tank. I have a 8k generator so its a gas hog, I hope I dont have to run it for long
