Question Pistol shrimp kill cleaner shrimp???

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/653413/pistol_shrimp/

I planned to have a YWG and pistol shrimp....but...is it a fiction only or it can happen in real live?

if he's not being fed he'll go after the cleaner, other wise he'll leave it alone. pistol shrimp are predatory scavengers, meaning that if they can't find anything already dead, they'll just hang out in their burrow until something comes along then they'll take that. so no worries on the cleaner shrimp being in danger.

My pistol shrimp sliced & diced my brittle star. The brittle star liked to hide under the rock where the pistol shrimp hides.

It really depends on what kind of pistol shrimp you get and how large it is. The shrimp that pair with gobies feed much differently than the free-living ones featured in the video clip.

Yeah, I have an Alpheus randalli with my cleaner and they seem to get along. The pistol shrimp is about 1/2 an inch long and doesn't get much bigger then maybe an inch. I see the cleaner infront of it's burrow picking up scraps I left for the pistol and the goby and nothing unfortunate has happened yet.

after all said and done--consider a pair of coral banded and a pair of cleaner shrimp----they get along create and don't bother the fish plus they are visible most of the time---I hate spending good cash on something and you never get to watch it.

I had a coral banded shrimp that wouldn't tolerate any other shrimp in the tank. I finally had to remove him from the tank.

If they are paired up, do they tend to leave other shrimp alone?
