That's a huge wrasse down by the hammer coral in the third picture. And what's that fish in the upper left of the second picture? I thought juvenile hogfish at first, but I couldn't place the coloration to any hogfish.

Tank is 6 months and some change old... The tanks is a 46 bow front. Yea, I know... I have multiple tangs in it... I am setting up a 120 or bigger tank in January, so some of the current stock will move to it.
It is a little crowded looking with all the coral, but I am just hooked on all the different LPS coral out there! I have some SPS, but they just don't seem to be as interesting to me! The fish in question (Doc Hammer asked) was identified as a Fairy Wrasse by the LFS, but I have never seen one that color. Was $29 so I thought I would give it a new home! Thanks for the complements guys! I really do still consider myself a newbie, as half a year is hardly enough time to learn a great deal about this amazing hobby! |

Nice pics. What type of camera did you use? What lights were they under when you took them? Did you use any special camera setting?

The camera is a Canon Rebel XT... Kinda fancy digital SLR, but I am basically camera stupid, so all the shots are taken in full automatic mode.
The lights are Outer Orbit HQI/T5 HO... They contain 2 150w 10,000K HQI bulbs, and 4 T5 HO Actinic bulbs. They seem to do the trick, because all my corals (SPS, LPS, and softies) are all happy! Thanks again for all the complements! I am very proud of my setup so far! I realize I don't have any where near the cool "Tank of the month" setups that are on this site, but for the short amount of time I have been in saltwater, I think I have made a good start! |

looks like you have a lack of corraline algea... check your calcium and your alk.
I had the same problem and my alk. was pretty low!

There is actually lots of Coralline on the back glass and on all the equipment. For some reason it has indeed been slow to cover the rock work. I have never checked my ALK, only the calcium... So that is something I will indeed look into! I actually don't test the water much at all. I do a weekly 5 gallon water change and that alone has seemed to keep everything happy. Other than one major problem when I was out of power for 2 days early on, I haven't had any issues at all with any livestock I have introduced to the tank. I have tried to make sure that I keep only peaceful inhabitants, and I make sure that the corals are all far enough apart as to not sting one another. I do have a couple Damsels, but they don't seem to be aggressive at all like I have read.
Again, thanks for all the comments and suggestions!!! I love this hobby! |
