What is wrong with my clown and anenome
I posted this in the clown/anenome forum, so please forgive me for posting here also, but I am really concerned.
I have had my maroon for about 5 months and he has developed a weird breakout since I added my bubble tip nem 2 days ago. He took to the nem about 1 day after it was in. Here are some pics. My anenome has been doing ok, but has hidden behind this rock since the 2nd day after traveling the first night. It has been opened up and all tentacles were looking nice and bubbly. It looked okay until about 1hr 1/2 ago and it now looks like this. Temp - 80 Salinity - 1.026 Ph - 8.2 Ammonia - 0 Nitrate - 0 Nitrites - 0 Phosphates - near 0 Calcium -420 Alk - 4 meq/L Mag -1300 Flow - 25x Lighting 4 x 54w t5ho (2 10k, 2 actinic) Is the nem dying and should I flip the rock over to the light? |

The nem is WAY to small for a maroon. Maroons are very tough (more than any other clown) on nems, they can love them to death. I suspect the maroon is getting cut from the rock as the nem tries to hide behind the rock.

I just noticed your other question. Don't flip the rock. The nem will do what he needs. HOWEVER, you need to decide, you wan the nem? Which will take about 6 months to recover or do you want the maroon. One must go.

The anemone is pretty bleached too. Does the clown have abrasions or a growth on its side?

Thanks for the response. The nem is about 2-3x the size of the maroon and from what I read, it should be ok. What kind of signs should I look for to know if it is too small for my maroon?
The picture was taken with flash and in person doesn't look white whatsoever. It is green, but I will ask my wife to see if I am wrong. |

Trust me. Maroons need very large, very healthy nems. Signs to look for will be obvious. The nem will stay small and get smaller and smaller tenticles as the maroon beats it.

I agree. The maroon will bother that anem to death eventually.
