coralife rodi unit issue....

its a 50gpd unit, my tds out of the tap is in the 200's
tds after the unit was 23.
unit was bought on 9-10
made 100g at most.

my main issue is, im trying to set up a 120g tank, the unit is making about 14g a day..... it was higher, now its slowing down. im almost getting a stready stream of bad water, and the good is like 3 drops a second.....

at this rate it will take 2 weeks to fill my 120

anyone have an idea or a coralife customer service number?

The GPD ratings are at 77 degrees water temperature. As we are getting into the colder months you will see a decline in the production rate.

It could be you have a lot of sediment in the water even though a TDS in the 200's is pretty good. Thats the problem we have in NY and I have to replace the sediment and carbon blocks on a regular basis but my TDS is around 150.

I would start with replacing the sediment and carbon filters and see if that helps any.

when i first set it up, i would get 5-6g in 4hrs. do they rate 50gpd as 24hrs or 12?

ive noticed the filter block is turnin kinda tan-ish. i do live in the country also

so should i turn on the hot water so it comes out at 77 degree's?

They are rated for 24 hours at 77 degrees. If the first filter is getting darker after 100 gallons, Ill bet it is a sediment issue. Thats the exact problem I have.

Never turn on the hot water tap to get the input water warmer. Its hard to regulate and if you dont constantly monitor it, it can quickly become hot which will melt your RO membrane and you are out 75 bucks. The RO membrane is a very fine plastic film that is wrapped around itself. The plastic can melt and ruin it.

If you replace the sediment and carbon filters, Ill bet it will produce like new again.

ok, are all sediment filters the same?
im not shure if my LFS sells the coralife brand filters

im also going to try and plumb in a PSI gauge

They are not all the same, some units from Sears and home improvement stores use propietary filters so you are stuck purchasing them. The Coralife units do use the standard 10" filters though so you can go with any brand. I have a Spectrapure RO/DI and have had a few other brands in the past and I like the Spectrapure filters the best.

Right now I only have a 45 gallon tank so dont go through much water. I was replacing my prefilters every 3-4 weeks because of the high sediment in my area. Spectrapure just came out with the Zeta Zorb sediment filter that has five times the surface area. http://www.spectrapure.com/St_replac_p1.htm Ive only been using it for a month but so far so good. With the regular sediment filters they would start losing pressure to the membrane in about a week and within 3-4 weeks they were down to less than 40 psi when it is over 60psi with new filters. This Zeta Zorb has been hitting 66psi for the full month and seems to have done the trick. I cant fully recommend them yet because its only been a month but if it last three months then it will be worth it because they cost twice as much as the regular ones.

Either way, I would get a new sediment and carbon filter on there and you should be good to go for the time being. If you can order online, there will be a much bigger choice of filters to go with. Click on the vendors tab up top and pretty much all of them stock replacement filters.
