Oceanic 178 reef ready
I have a 75 gallon Oceanic in my basement now. I'm eyeing the new 178 at a LFS. Would it be practical to get it into the basement (can it be done) with the weight and all?
Thanks, James

Without knowing your floorplan it's hard to say. I'd recommend taping some cardboard boxes together and seeing if it will physically fit. That's going to be a really heavy tank though. Plan on at least 4 grown men to maneuver safely and 6 would be better.

I've already measured the physical space- I know it will fit. It's just a matter of dealing with the weight.
I remember moving the 75 and thinking that I was glad that it wasn't any heavier... I am a glutton for punishment, though. Thanks, James

For a move like that, you'll probably need some of those big suction cups>
Here's link http://www.powrgrip.com/cgi-bin/powr...hand_cups.html 4 guys should be able to handle that. 6 just in case. Jim

measure the doors and handrails and ceiling/stair distance.
Now you make me wonder about the tank I want... I couldn't even lift the piece of glass for my entertainment system! looks like I better find some strong men/friends! (maybe beer will get them to help =P

How much would would a tank (empty) of this size weigh? 300 lbs or so?
I've been looking online for a while now and haven't found anything that helps. I did a rough calculation using 2400kg/cubic meter as the density of glass and came up with only 250 lbs. That seems low to me? Thanks, James
