Un-cycled Hypo tank questions
I have 6 fish in a 20 L tank now that are at 1.015....long story.
I treated them in a 10 gal. with Rid Ich+ for 4 days then moved them into the 20 L today. Before I made the switch I noticed that my ammonia reading was 2.0. After doing a quick water change of 2 gallons it's didn't really come down. Question 1: Could formalin/malachite green show as ammonia? Now the fish are in a 20L. Fish: 2 False perc's 2 Damsels 1 Chromis 1 Lawn Mower Blenny On my 55 gallon that these fish came from I have an HOB(Aquaclear 50) that's been running on there for over 2 weeks with the filter pad. Question 2 Would it be worth it to take that filter and switch it with the (Whisper)filter I have now on the 20L QT? Would this help with keeping ammonia at bay? Or would I risk reinfecting the QT tank with Ich cyst even though I'll be at hypo? Should I just continue with water changes, and I also bought Amequel and Poly pads? |

1. I don't this so.
2. I would probably move the filter from the 55 to the 20L. What's left in the 55? Amquel would be useful to dose at this point.

Thanks bertoni...
There's only my LR and the inverts in the 55. I'm running a CPR Bak Pak 2 on there(55). The Aquaclear HOB has been on there for at least 2 weeks without cleaning the filter pad.I also added the bio-pack that came with the filter about 4-5 days ago figuring I might make some use out of that.

I'd just move the filter, personally.

Sounds good! Best of luck. Filtration can be difficult during hyposalinity, from I've read.

get a Seachem ammonia test. They claim they don't give false positives like some of the tests do for some meds. My tests give false positives for coppersafe.
