help with PM Bullet-2

I have this skimmer, the PM bullet-2, and Mak-4 pump, which is recommended for it.

As per PM instrustions, I open the gate valve all the way, close the air intake, and turn on the pump, ... it pumps the water fine, but it pumps it so much that even with the gate valve completely open, the water goes into the collection cup, ...

How should I adjust this to make my skimmer start working the way it should?

Any help, please!

Something must be blocking the exit path. Take apart the whole thing to check for blockages.

Is this a new skimmer to you?

yes it is new, and fully clean

would it be worth it to put a gate valve BEFORE the skimmer intake to cut down on the water going into the skimmer?

Is the output above or below the water line? If it is below depending on how much, it can cause the water level to rise in the skimmer.

the output from the skimmer base is above the water line, which is why this makes no sense to me

does the drain line drop more that 6 inches? i would take the valve off and open and close it to make sure that thing is doing what it should.

i would unscrew the valve from the skimmer and at the same time you can inspect inside the skimmer for a blockage
