Do chillers decrease humidity?
It seems my home is suffering from some humidity damage. Nothing major but still a few grand that could be spent else where. Many of the contractors at my house suggested a dehumidifier. Wow! Didn't realize a decent unit cost as much as a chiller. I have been wanting a chiller and found this to be the excuse to get one. If I ran a chiller I could turn off the fans and use it as the cooling mechanism instead of evaporation.
For my question... I realize a chiller puts out heat. Is it a dry heat though? Will the chiller decrease home humidity? The humidity decrease is my whole reason to consider a chiller. My fans do a decent job for cooling right now. |

If you add a chiller it will decrease your humidity by not having to run your fans. It will not pull moisture out of the air though. If you want to decrease the humidity in the house, buy the chiller and shut down your fans.

IMO run both, the chiller will help a lot since you wont be pointing any fans at the tank getting more water to evaporate, and to answer your question a chiller puts out heat only no humidity from the chiller, works the same way as your fridge. The dehumidifier will help control the extra hummidity that unfortunatly will always leach out of your tank.

Is this humidity from outside or from the tank or do you mean condesation?

Crack a window homie.
A chiller will decrease the output of humdity by the tank by decreasing the amount of evaporation. Opening a window slightly will greatly decrease humidity in a home IME. Exhaust fans are a great invention as well.

I agree with pledosophy... For example, I run a humidifier in my sunroom for the plants. On low the room stays around 60%. By opening the door to get a few pieces of firewood, the humdity level almost immediately drops into the 30's.
I'm shocked you have such a problem, well 3 tanks is more than average, but still suprising. You must have an unusually tight home. What type of heating do you have? |
