Couldn't find the SPS identification thread, so figured...
I have been scouring the web trying to find out what kind of acro it is, but couldn't figure it out.
Anyone has ANY ideas, please post 'em up...  I will try to get a close up of its polyps when I get home tomorrow. FWIW, when I bought it (month ago) it was white/cream and was $15 (about 3") Thanks!

A. valida would be my guess. Tricolor acro.

I was thinking A. secale...but if that is valida...it must be a variation, because I have another much more "branching" like coral with thinner branches with similar color to the one above...
This is a picture I found on google that is identical to the other coral I have...  fitch, thanks for the imput!

I'm with John here! Either valida or nana... or just Acropora sp.
What's the scientific name help with anyways? Doesn't tell you how to grow it... look at structure and growth habit... my 2 cents! |

Assumes Live Aquaria has identified it correctly! Many times the maricultures farms in the South Pacific labels as they feel fit... for instance they'll list A. gemmifera but when they arrive they'll clearly be A. humilis... sheesh!

Okay, so thats confirmed.
Yeah, the thing is, I think that LA's specialists look at all the corals when they come into the warehouse and make sure that they have the right name.

Still looks like valida to me, coralites don't seem to increase in size as you progess down the branches like a secale should, but I'm not a LA specialist... just a trained taxonomist. I also agree with John, a name is a name in this case.

John... trained taxonomist eh? So you would dip the coral in bleach so that the skeletal structure could be fully revealed for identification purposes?

Well it isn't in full health yet, I got it about a month ago nearly fully bleached, but it is only a 2 1/2 inch piece...anywho, thanks guys for the help
