No problems with using distilled... I used it for a year before I got an RO unit..had no issues with algae or other nutrients

No, it's generally quite good, just expensive.

That will work just fine, I used it for over a year with no problems, but then I got a RO/DI and never turned back, lugging water sucks.

I have heard that distilled water is ok if it has not been distilled thorough copper tubing.

You can buy little countertop distillers on ebay, my friend has had one for years. I'm not sure how much electricity it takes to make a gallon though.

my tanks been up for about 3 months now, and I've been using nothing but distilled and already HATE it, it sux lugging 4 gallon boxes of jugs of distiled water from walmart to my house, up my stairs, to my room, its a PAIN! let alone I go through about a case a week, =/ so within that 3 months, Going on my fourth, I've decided

TIME FOR A RO/UNIT! It will pay for itself within a month I guarantee it, and it saves you gas money to buy water, ur muscles etc... it rocks. I cant wait.

I be careful accepting the notion that if the distilled water used by Reefer A is OK, that it is always OK. If, as mentioned above, it is distilled in equipment that contains certain types of metal cooling coils, then it may not be.
