90 degree pvc ... how much gph reduction

If you have an overflow that is 1" PVC, I understand you get approx. 750 gph of water through to your sump.

If you have 4 or 5 pieces of 90 degree PVC from your Durso Standpipe to your sump, how greatly does this reduce your gallons per hour?

Also, how would that same set up affect an 850 gph return pump?

For 1" pipe a 90 degree elbow puts as much resistance as 6in of straight pipe.

Thanks for the quick response

wouldn't that just be for the resistance on the return pump tho?

The guy at the plumbing store told me that I would get less GPH of drainage from my tank to the sump if there were 90 degree bends. I can't calculate how much less this will be based on an extra 6 inches of straight pipe since I am using pipe diameter, not distance to sump to calculate my gph.

The number of bends in your Dursos or overflow discharge piping is not of great consequence to your total gph flow, unless your piping cannot supply enough water to your sump to keep you return pump fully submerged (assuming it is an internal pump)

The number of bends, length of pipe, distance in feet from the return pump back up to the display tank is a much greater determinating factor on how many gph your return pump will actually put out.

If you can tell me how many feet from your return pump up to the top of the display tank, how many 45 or 90 degree turns, and how many actual return discharges you will be running I can give you a pretty accurate real world figure on that 850 gph pump

Oh, and what brand of pump would also be helpful...

Vertical distance (in feet) from your return pump up to the top of your display tank?

Your 1190 gph Mag 12 is going to actually pump around 495 gph through the equivalent 10.1 total feet of head at a PSI of 4.7

Pump is a Danner Mag Drive 950

Flow Rate at 0' Head: 950 GPH
Flow Rate at 4' Head: 800 GPH
Flow Rate at 6' Head: 760 GPH

Distance from pump to outlet at display height is about 5 feet.

(4) 45 degree elbows
(4) 90 degree elbows

approximately 6 feet worth of straight pipe
