Red face too much rock for a 75g FOWLR? pics

i have no idea how many lbs of rock it is. i still have a lot more in the sump. lol. it was going to be an SPS tank but decided that school at the moment is more important and would rather have a tank that i just need to feed and do a water change. i just added sand since it was BB.

im just wondering if there will be enough swimming room or if i need to take out a lot of that rock so they can swim around

here are some bad pics with a camera phone:

so what do you think? too much rock for a FOWLR? there will be mostly wrasses in the tank

There really isn't too much rock, as long as your fish have enough room to swim for exercise and there enjoyment. I think it looks great and you could do more if you wanted. Is it live rock or base rock? It looks like nice rock. I am curious to what it is.....JL

its a mix of 3 types of rock: Spaghetti rock, fiji premium live rock (only about 16 lbs of it in there), and regular fiji rock from Marco Rocks thats 25 lbs. at the time i bought the spaghetti rock they were sold out on regular fiji, so i went with the spaghetti since it was cheap but its really heavy. it also had a lot of red on it that had to be washed off. I liked the fiji rock better than the spaghetti and the premium fiji rock

i still have some spaghetti rock and premium fiji in my sump that will probably end up in my biocube 14

i wasnt sure if it would be too much rock since itll have wrasses and a flame angel along with 3 fish from my 28. i was thinking of adding a heniochus or long nose butterfly fish

thanks everyone!

It really depends on what type of fish you want to keep... there are several that will love the rock and all the lovely places to hang out or hide as needed.

Speaking of which, what are you thinking about keeping?

Mykel I think a flame angel, yellow coris wrasse, heniochus or butterfly, maybe both, and some other wrasses but not sure. I've tried asking people about a fish list but no luck with responses.

I got the sandbed for the wrasses, otherwise it would have been BB

I think it looks just fine. A good amount of swimming room, a few caves... looks good.

Sounds good so far... stocking lists are hard to hand out because they are often subjective... a fish I might love, you might hate, or might be incompatible with something high on your list...

It's always better to list what you are interested in, then ask what else you might add... for instance, the banners and butterfly fish aren't on my personal list at all, so I don't know enough to tell you what might go with them vs. what might eat them So, I'm not much help here... I love wrasses, but can only have the reef safe ones, so again, I'm really not much help on FOWLR tanks I guess

Lol its alright. I think what worries me more are the nitrates and phosphates. I think ill dose vodka and use biodigest to take care of most of it

I bought a car with my student loan

Looking back, I would have bought a reef tank

Looks like a good start. I can't tell from the pics, but are there a lot of places that water can circulate through the rocks and that fish can swim through? If not, maybe you can open up the rocks a little bit. I try to avoid "dead end" caves and try to go more for "tunnels".

i changed out 10g of water yesterday, im making another 10g to change. ive been cleaning out the filter sock, i have chaeto in the sump with a light on it. im just waiting until 5pm to take my SPS corals to a friend who is going to set it up in his 90g. after that, i plan on giving a PLTA to a different friend, then im going to take the fiji rock from that tank and sell it to the lfs, along with the tank, stand, sand, and possibly the lighting fixture

ill be taking over the iwaki pump and replace the mag drive 9.5, ill be adding my modded tunze 6025s, ill add my octo nw150 skimmer, and ill put a 20g sump that will be temporary

on the way i have some biodigest, rowaphos for my phosphate reactor, and im going to start dosing vodka to keep nitrates low

FTS:

the main cave thats open all the way through:

left side has mini caves that they can go in and connects to other caves:

right side has many caves as well:

this is the right side looking through the side:

Left Side looking through the side with a fish i added:

just to let you know the tank did cycle already, so dont think i just added rock. the reason it was cloudy was because i had decided on getting sand for wrasses, since it was going to BB for SPS. ive had the lights off through the cycle, did get brown stuff on some of the rocks. im pretty sure im going to see an algae bloom next week

Neitzsche, the cave and tunnel look great--couldn't really tell they were there in the first picture. As the mom of a university student, I would say mind yours studies AND your reef (and don't spend too much dough on the latter...) LOL!

I think it's hard to get "too" much live rock...that looks pretty good. I tell ya what though...many times you can get a hammer and chisel and very carefully split the rock...and that way maybe you can stack the pieces higher and fill the tank more on the back and sides rather than having rock protruding out so much...I like the open look myself.

Here's my 75 with about 90 lbs rock....I like to open look...but be careful when you do what I do...many would say that I may crack my tank because rock is towered all along the back wall...but I feel my deep sand bed disperses the weight somewhat and makes it doable.
