cpr bak pak skimmer not skimming

hi, about three weeks ago i bought a cpr bak pak hang on skimmer with bio bale. it immediately collected foam and dirty water in the cup. a couple days ago i cleaned it out and the collector cup has been dry since. i checked the rio 600 pump and it seems to be operating properly. there is foam in the bottom part of the skimmer but no water or foam is getting up to the collector cup. any advice will be greatly appreciated. thank you

I had the same problem with the cpr bak pak. Mine is a year old. What I did was I did a simple mod to it. I got a whisper pump rated for 20 gallons, air tubing and a 2 inch wood air stone. With this I connected everything and then put the tube with air stone down into the return chamber and under into the chamber where the water goes in. By doing this ur creating the bubbles necessary for it to skim and wouldn't u know it the thing actually works better now. Give it a **** its not that hard.

I have the same problem. The top inch of the lift tube gets a buildup of "sluge" and it quits foaming. I have two collection cups and swithc them every 2-3 days.

I have one on my QT that I used for a year on my 55 gallon display.I ended up doing the maxijet 1200 mod to it.Also did a mesh mod to it as well. It's a PITA raising and lowering the collection cup all the time.

rbtwo4,
You might have spelled it with an"i" instead of "o".lol

I ran two of these for years. Get a MaxiJet 1200 for sure. Also, the key to this skimmer is regular cleaning of the air intake.

Yep, the rubber tubes where the air is pulled in. Salt creeps in the tubing and venturi valve restrict the air flow. They're pretty good skimmers if you keep them up.
