Lighting Upgrade - Cange ballast and Bulb??

Hi, I'm just about done putting up a 120g (48x24x24) tank. I purchased used (6mo old) 48'' Giesemann lights. It has 2-150w metal halide lights and 2-T5 lights. I'm concerned, that the tank being 24'' deep, the light will not be enough to get to the bottom. I eventually would like to keep SPS corals, in the future of course.

I was thinking about upgrading the lighting. I have a 150w metal halide light now and might want to go with 250w. Just not sure if it is enough light or what to do.

Can i just purchase new bulbs and ballasts and replace the old ones? I currently have 48'' Giesemann 150w w/T5. Will the 150w be enough? If I can replace them which should I get? the same Giesemann brand or can use different ballasts? Also how close do I want the lights off the water? I'll be hanging them from the 10' ceiling in the room.

Thanks,
Bob
