Am I setting up a quarantine tank right??

I have to setup a quarantine tank for 2 fish that have ich. I have a 75gal tank to use. Now how do I keep the biological in the water alive. I do have a canister filter that I can use and a powerhead.

Any assistance would be great

Thanks

I keep it very bare - no sand or rock. I do include a piece of pvc pipe for them to hide in. Mine just has a regular canister filter, a thermometer and one powerhead to move the water around. I check my water params every day - ammonia can spike quickly and do frequent water changes - usually every couple of days if not sooner.

Check for ammonia at the same time every day. A $7 ammonia badge from the LFS is a good idea too. And don't forget to check PH frequently as well. I just got finished quarantining 2 clownfish in a 20G for 4 weeks. I used a new sponge filter that didn't have any bacteria buildup on it. I had to change 5G (20%) of water every other day to keep ammonia at zero. When changing water be sure you siphon excess food and debris from the bottom of the tank.

Next time I quarantine I will be using a filter that is already established with bacteria. To do this I am going to keep the sponge in the sump of my main tank when it's not in use. All those water changes got old.

I'm running a canister on my main tank. Should I pull the micron media and charcoal and use it in the quarantine tank? Also, what's a ammonia badge?
