Do all skimmers use a sponge at the intake?

I am tired of cleaning the sponge.

I would like to buy a new skimemr that is sponge free.

Is that even possible?

Of course. I had a remora - no sponge.

I currently have an MSX 160 - no sponge.

What skimmer do you currently have that requires a sponge?

Sponges on the intake of a skimmer are not the norm.

I'll remove mine and see how it plays out.
I'll also take a picture of it later this evening.

no sponge on my octo, you'd think that you would WANT that gunk to get inthere for the skimmer to remove it.

I think the sponge is on the out flow side used to diffuse micro bubbles. At least that is how mine works.

You must have a Sea Clone this is the only skimmer that I know of that has a sponge on the pump. Removing it will not hurt anything.
