I stink at removing frag plugs...

So I've got a ton of things in my tank on frag plugs and I'm terrible about it. With an acro or other nice branching SPS, it's easy, just snap and glue.

But what about zoas? How do you get them off the plug and onto a rock where they can grow? I have a very bad history of fragging zoas, I usually pop them with the razor trying to get them off.

Or encrusting montis? My superman is just growing around the plug, I suppose I could set it on a rock and hope it stays still while the monti grows off of the plug and onto the rock... but how do you all handle frag plugs?

I usually just cut the bottom of the frag plug off and glue it to the rock! If there's a hole in the rock big enough, I just stick the plug in there and put a dot or two of glue to hold it in place.

I'll usually look for a hole in the rock, then I just stick the plug in there and put a dot or two of glue to hold it in place! If there's no holes big enough, I will just cut the bottom of the frag plug off and glue it to the rock.

Current Tank Info: Took down my 600 w/ 8 400hqi's and 2- 3"/75gal surges years ago.. Next will be a glass 300DD w/3 400hqi's, 2 2"/25 gal and a 3rd 25 split for 2- 1 1/2" surges. You know.. Keep it simple.

This sounds so familiar... weird.

Ditto! After the plug has overgrown, you can remove the plug leaving behind the overgrown ones on the rock & frag what's on the plug.

There are times I have razored the zoas off the plug & glued them directly to the rock but I have found them to have less of a chance of making it that way.

Ok, so everyone else leaves the plugs on too (maybe minus the base), there's no magic method. I need to get a nice set of bits that let me drill frag plug sized holes into my rocks without splitting them.

Thanks all!
