Quiet fans for canopy/hood?
I would like recomendations for installable fans for my hood that are reliable and quiet. I am using some fans that came with my old hood and it sounds like a jet taking off when they are started up. I currently have 6 fans on the top of the canopy (6 ft long)
Help!! |

I use one Vantec Stealth 120mm fan in each end of my 5 foot canopy both blowing in with holes drilled in the top directly over the reflectors for heat to escape. This works well even with 2x250MH and 2x140w VHO bulbs. The fans are about $12 each at www.newegg.com and are powered by a variable voltage DC power supply from Harbor Freight Tools so I can vary fan speeds and noise.
53 CFM each at 28 dBa I believe so I am getting right at 10 air changes a minute at 12v DC. |

I just got some new fans and will hopefully get them in and post about them this weekend.
I found out about them by reading Silent PC Review Fan Roundup #5: Attack of the 120 Scythes I bought 4 of the SCYTHE SLIP STREAM SY1225SL12M 68.54 CFM - 1,200 RPM - 24 dBA Quote:

I use a 140mm Yate Loon D14SL-12("46CFMat25dB") for the stand and 2 Noctua NF-S12("35CFMat8dB") for the canopy.
Love 'em. |
