Yellow tang and juvenile chocolate tang

Does anyone have any experience with keeping these 2 fish in the same tank.I am wondering if they would be able to get along?

Are these going into your 100gallon? If you add the chocolate before the yellow that would help out quite a bit.

yes they are going into the 100g and the yellow tang which is the only fish in the tank right now is already added my other thought was a powder brown tang or a white cheek tang.

those bottom 2 would be a no no. In a 100gallon tank. They are both highly active tangs and aggressive. You should do ok with adding the chocolate. They have differant body shapes, but the yellow will have some tail slapping nothing huge. Just add the chocolate at night and if possible leave the lights off a couple days to help ease the introduction.

Why would the other 2 be not alright? It is a 100g tank but its 6ft long..this is not a normal 100g tank so i dont think the size of the tank is an issue or is it just that those species are to aggressive for a yellow tang?

6 feet and heavy flow is a good situation for keeping power brown and similarly shaped tangs. The only problem may be that yellow tangs tend to get territorial if they are the first fish/tang added to the tank there could be heavy fighting at first with any tang regardless of the kind when first added.

I tried that and had to rip my tank apart to get out the new mimic tang...I even tried to remove the yellow for a few weeks and reintroduce him. The yellow slashed at him constantly and I had to remove the mimic. This all was in my 180g

Well bj32482 your the 3rd person that said this would be a bad idea to add a mimic chocolate with the yellow so i think i am gonna pass and look further into the powder blue or brown leaning tword the brown..ty you for your opinions

yeah, it was really sad for me because the mimic I had was beautiful and healthy... it was really hard watching him get slashed.

if you were to take out the yellow tang for a couple days and reintroduce it with the tangs you want it would work, but i dont see how it would n e other way, my yellow tried to destroy n e other fish i had added after him.

bj, what were the sizes of the tangs? I have a 2.5" yellow tang in QT and a 3-3.5" juvi mimic. I'm going to let the mimic get well established, I'll also have an establish kole. So hopefully they will all get along. The mimic and kole are fine together. If the yellow becomes an A-Hole (he's pretty shy now) then he'll go in my FO.

Both were 3-5 inches depending on how you measure

ya let me know how it goes for you..i am gonna wait on the mimic i guess..i had really wanted to go with a powder brown as an alternative but have heard such bad things as far as disease and survivability that now i am looking at maybe getting a atlantic blue tang.

Yeah I'd steer away from the PBT. My brother has a juvi atlantic blue tang, great fish! I might actually get that one of him since he is getting out of the hobby. But I think I will be maxed out for tangs. It will be a couple weeks before I really add or mix any tangs to my tank. I am adding the weak/shy fish first (chromis, cardinals, firefish, then wrasses etc then the tangs). I'll let you know how it goes.
