Jellyfish
Akron zoo has several jellyfish tanks. They are cool looking and calming. some dont have tenicles other tanks have them with tenicles. i think all tanks are single species.
my question is it practical to do at home? what is their lifecycle, special needs? anthony |

First of all you'd need a kreisel style aquarium It keeps them moving around with the flow, has no corners they can get stuck in and intakes that won't suck them in.
I don't know much else but suspect it'd be a pretty expensive set up and require excellent water and maintenance.

completely dependent on species. Most require heavy feeds daily and will require daily water changes. A few require less food but need halides as they are photosynthetic (zooxanthellae). All the pelagic forms need a kreisel tank big enough for them. long story short, keeping jellies in itself is a special requirement.
I am curious myself about upside down jellies though. My theory is that they wouldn't be too hard as they are largely photosynthetic (Ill still feed them) and may not need more than a sand substrate in a standard tank with little flow and very carefully selected tankmates (or none at all). plus i hear they dont sting hard either. |

there was one tank at akron zoo with upside down jellys. they were on the bottom of the tank. the tank was not real big. none of the tanks looked too well lit. next time i am there (young kids) i will see if there is anyone there to ask.
