Orange Spotted Goby Question

I want to get an orange spotted goby to help move the sand around. My question is: are they jumpers? do I need a to cover the tank?

Yes, they are jumpers. One jumped to his death from my QT and the only spot not covered was a small crack at the back of the tank. Also, beware, these slim bullet-shaped fish can go through eggcrate.

Never had a problem with mine. In fact he never leaves the bottom. Digs caves constantly. I found out the hard way that they stir the sand up a lot. I had to take out as much Oolite sand as I could and put something in just a little larger it was like a dust could in my tank. My sand has never been whiter an it never stops eatting. I would suggest them to anyone and I don't have a top on my tank

i just purchased a diamond goby 3 hours ago and he immediately went to work. they sift the sand constantly but do create a small sandstorm. i would highly reccommend them!

My first one lasted a week found him on floor right out egg crate. I just got one today will see how it goes . he's not clouding much yet . But sand looks better already.

Not taking any chances just put my glass top back on . Will make my egg crate jump proof when I get a chance. Hate to throw 20 buck fish away.

I think it depends on the goby and what the other tankmates are. If he is being bothered by anyone else, he is more likely to jump. Also if the water parameters changed suddenly like when you calcium buffers or coral additives they might jump.

I just got home he's doing his thing little cloudy but I was told here they settle down. There like a child running lose in a candy store at first.
