95 Gallon Wave Tank

So I was looking for a larger tank to make a swim tank. Well I have not been able to find just a tank and stand. I did find a brand new 95 gallon wave tank w/over flow and stand for $380. This tank is brand new and I'm wondering if you guys think It would make a good swim tank. its stil lonly 4ft long. what do you guys think? should I hold out for a 5 or 6 foot tank insted?

It really depends on what you are going to put in it. All I can say is this: I have had corner tanks and bowfront tanks and as cool as they look, I would probably buy a standard rectangular tank if I was to do it all over again. There is something about the curved glass that blurs your vision and hurts your eyes when you are looking at something at an angle. For example, put something in this aquarium at the store like a decoration or something. Bring your eyes down to the level of the decoration so you are looking straight at it. Then stand up slowly while watching the decoration and it will more than likely get blurry as you view it more and more at a downward angle. Take into account that most of your viewing will be at a downward angle and you just might not want that tank anymore.

If your putting in "swimmers" i. e. wrasse, a small schoal of butterflies or chromis, Iwould go with your first instinct and get a LONGER swim tank.

One of the biggest regrets I've had was selling my orange-collared wrasse (like a puppy) instead of selling my 75g reef set-up and just setting up an 8' FOWLER (even if he was an excellent reef citizen). Despite what the "experts" say, a 75g doesn't allow enough swim room for these guys. (OTOH, you could plop a much larger Volitans lionfish in a 50g and he may do fine - not as active an animal.)

As Gigafish said, it depends on what you want to put in there. I just would put the emphasis on the residents comfort and need for space to minimize territorial disputes (gotta admit fighting kinda takes the "relaxing" factor out of watching a fish tank).

+1 on figuring out what you want to put in first. There is hardly anything more distressing than watching a fish get picked on and not being able to do anything about it.

There is a 180 gallon tank out there but I can't really afford it. It's a whole set up and I just need the tank and the stand.
