T5 Light Fixture with LED Lights - Anyone Got One?
I saw one made by Finnex on Aquacave (I'm looking at the 4x54W 48") and they looked to be nice. They're a little pricey ($450) but they include LED lights on them.
Anyone have the Finnex fixture, or a fixture with LED's that you're happy with? Thanks, |

I have the Nova Extreme that has two small LED's on it for lunar lights. They are so dim that you can't even tell they are on unless the entire house is pitch black dark.
I personally do not consider those lunar-light LED's that many fixtures come with to be useful at all. For viewing stuff at night I just use a small LED flashlight. I also rarely let the LED's on them be a factor in decision making. If it has them, fine, if not, fine, so long as it doesn't raise the price any  .

I used to have the 36" t5 Nova extreme which was amazing but ended up getting into metal halide instead. Never heard of the Finnex. I know the Nova Extremes are very high rated. redfishsc
sttd his led's were very dim. I had the exact opposite as I thought mine were actually a little bright.

I have something thats pretty cool....but really expensive...
fauna marin starfire fixture... it is an 8 bulb t5 fixture...dimmable ballasts ..!!!!! lunar leds.... and a single shimmer led.... it is awesome... its all hooked up to my ghl profilux controller and i get simulated cloudcover and the lights dim up and down for sunrise and sundown... simply awesome.... way better then anything i have experienced..... but its expensive..!!! |

Ive seen the 48" Finnex T5/LED in person.
Its MEGA bright, the T5's come with individual reflectors, and the LED's are built on a big solid block of finned aluminum about 2" wide and 1.5" tall....much like what you see on a home brew LED setup for cooling. When its on a tank you cant tell that it has T5's for lighting because of the crazy shimmer the LED's give off. They were using on a prop tank/display tank in their basement. They were keeping mostly sps, some Z's and P's. The sps were looking very nice, with a lot of growth noticeable. The Z's were obviously soaked in light, as they 'glued' to their plugs and not extending up to the light source. I was really impressed with it, metal halide shimmer...T5 power consumption and lots of power.

I hope it never catches on, I like having the oldest tank on here and I don't have to worry about calcification, bio pellets, Vodka dosing, DSBs, Chaetomorpha (I don't even know what that is) Carbonite hardness and all of these other things many people worry about. If I had to think about all of that stuff I would get a stroke. My test kit came in a wooden box and the directions say to keep in a cool chariott. I throw some food in the tank, wave hello to the fish and go out with my wife and have a nice glass of merlot with dinner.
