Sea Hare Good or bad?
Iv heard Sea Hares INK. If they do, how bad is it to the reef tank?
Im thinking of getting one to help with my Green Hair problem. Anyone have a big problem besides them knocking things over? Thanks. |

I used to have one...its was about 4-5 inches....it took care of my hair algae problem and never actually knocked anything over. The are a great addition....however some people say they starve after hair algae is gone...

I had two over the life of my 90. They do work for sure, but one at all the hair algae and blew it's own stomach out it's nose. The other I gave to a fellow refer to help with his hair algae problem. I believe he still has it in his refuge, where he collects rocks covered in algae from fellow reefers to keep it fed.

Yes they will eat hair algae. Be prepared to give it away after the algae is gone, otherwise the poor thing will starve to death.
Be really careful about powerheads and pump intakes if you get one. They will get sucked in when they come too close. This will kill them and cause them to release ink. The ink itself is not toxic. It will not kill your fish or corals. However, when they do ink, it is a lot. In your 90, the ink will be sufficient to turn your water light black/purple. You will have to filter and water change like crazy to get your water clear again. However, they won't ink as long as they don't get sucked into anything or have aggressive fish or crabs bother them. |

Thanks for the input. It sound like everyone has good things to say about them. I just thought the Ink Would be real bad for a reef like death to the corals.
Iv been battle green hair for a long time with this tank. I need help my fingers are ready to bleed, from pulling it out all the time. Im back on my water changes, bought the new nano wave.(witch i love). Bought a TDS meter. Changed all the RO filters. Hope that the algea will move on out soon. |
