Quarintine tank

Could I use a 40g fish only tank that has it's own filtration and skimmer as a quarintine tank for fish that are destined for my reef tank? I ask because I've read that with a quarintine you are supposed to tear it down and wash it with a bleach solution every time you use it. I would rather just use a full time fish only tank that can handle copper treatment or whatever medicines.

It's advisable to clean a QT between uses and when you use medication specifically antibiotics you’re going to kill your bacteria in the tank and ruin the rock (it will never be able to use in any other tank again).

I have a 40 set up all the time not just as a qt but a hospital tank as well. You can run a skimmer but it will likely need to be shut down while medicating. I use a few pcs of 2" pvc to create hiding spaces and a few pcs of eco dead rock with a bare bottom but is runs all the time, I test params and do water changes as needed and just keep it running should I ever need it in an emerg.

ok. I have a niger trigger I bought and he now looks like he has ich. I put him in a QT tank and dosed some seachem cuprimine today. He is already looking better. What is the length of recovery? ie how long should he be kept in the QT?

Thats 4 to 6 weeks after you do not see any more ich.
Also if there are other fish in your tank they are infected and need treated as well.
