MattMike Possibly upgrading to 240 or 300. Input
So, I'm thinking of upgrading to a 240 or 300. The two tanks I took a look at were great but here is what I'm running into. Both of them have 30 inch stands which I feel is kinda low but what are your thoughts? Also the 240 has a 1.5 drain but no return drilled hole. What should I do about that? And I would need to build a canopy for either one I choose. Give me your thoughts about what I should do and so forth since I'm making a decision within a few days. Thanks
I currently have a 180 gallon. |

I have a 96 x 30 x 24 with a 24 " stand. A 96 x 36 x 28 x with a 28" stand.
I'm 6'3" and the 24 " stand is no problem, the 28" requires a stool to get to the bottom. Guess it depends on how high the tank is and if you want to use something to stand on. |

It is a problem with a low stand. I have a 180 that the stand is 34", gives you room for a decent skimmer, but still hard to reach any thing with out a stool.I went remote sumps for anything I couldn't fit under the stand or external. My biggest skimmer is 63", so no stand for that one.
I like the look of the taller stand and it does give you a little more room to play with for the skimmer. I like the remote sump becuase it is easier to service, and you can put what ever height you need. It also keeps the humidity out of your stand, saves on salt creep there too. I have everything in the basement , so it's an option for me. If you have a display else where, plumbing a remote can be a pita and add alot of head to all your return pumps. |
