What do you think??

I wasn't happy with my aquascaping so I changed it. What do you think is better? I won't say just yet which pic was the original and which was the change although you can probably tell. Please give any opinions you have.

I think I'd keep working on it a bit. The first arrangement has too much of a "rock pile" look to it. If you open it up a bit by creating some bridges or passages in the rock, I think I would like it better (and so would your fish)

If you are going to do the 2 islands effect, make them visibly different sizes like 1/3 and 2/3. Also, bring them a little closer together. You might need a couple more rocks to pull it off. Maybe that was the original layout. What do I know. Anyway, don't be afraid to epoxy, zip tie, or pin stuff to get what you want. The more you play, the more you will get a feel for what looks right.

I only voted for pic 1 b/c 2 looks bare. If you could build those pillars up a bit in pic 2, they could look awesome

I voted pic 1 even tho it does look kinda like a rock pile, but isn't that what a reef is? I like to make my aquascaping look like what I envision a reef to be. Try moving things around a bit more and when you find it, you'll know it.

Thanks for all of the replies with your opinions and ideas. I would be nice if some could post pics of their own aquascapes for idea. Keep the ideas coming I'm stuck.

So are you asking which one looks better or which one was the original?

I have to say I dont understand why folks struggle with this. Its just a pile of rocks. If you have 10 or 12 rocks of varying size, theyre going to fit together and create a somewhat realistic scape. Theres a million ways to do it. I think too many people over think it. Just set a 5 year old kid in front of some dry baserock on the porch and tell him/her to build a reef, I bet it will look fantastic 99% of the time. The cool thing about it is, no two tanks are the same. Just make it your own. Theyre just rocks

here is the beginning of my scape for the new 180 I still need to add the columns I made to the front of the tank there will also be bridges connecting the towers to the back rock wall. I will post pic's of the finnish scape for you when its done

here are the columns that will be added.

I am not sure how many of these I will use until I start placing them.the 1st pic of the rock on the sand bed is nicley arched and will be one of the bridges.also the towers are a bit taller now because they are finnished.

Wow whipit! That looks awesome! Anyways I think I finally got it. It doesn't look anywhere as good as Whippit's or any of the other really good scapes that I've seen but it's decent for the amount and size rock that I have and I think its the best so far. I like the fact that this scape gives me multiple caves and alot of flat area to place coral on. I think it'll stay like this. What do you guys think of this one?

The first pick was the original btw
