natural light

i was wondering the success of corals in aquariums that didnt have lights and relied on natural sunlight. i'm not really planning on doing this but my little sister has a little 2.5g tank set up with out aligth and i just threw a stray mushroom in there since i'm curious, so far so good but i was wondering if any one has had any real experience with this

soem people have tanks that use sunlight..but they incorporate special solar tubes to focus it into the tank. that mushroom should be fine.

Natural sunlight can heat up a tank real quick. This would be my main concern.

+1

I've seen at least three with huge solor tubes for lighting...They would supplement the color with T5's or whatever.

How could "real" light heat the water more that MH's sitting on top of the tank?!?!

Lol, I don't know, but betting against the sun just doesn't seem like the wise thing to do IMO.

i wouldnt do it, i mean if you are just gonna have a couple mushrooms whatever try it out. if you ever want more you would prolly need lighting, also you are not gonna have the colors pop like you would with lighting.

sunlight would work for sure, but overheating could be a problem.
