Ducan w/ yellow threads?
Hello folks -
I'm curious to find out if anyone has any idea as to what's up with my duncan colony. I noticed it was closed up today (had been messing around with a water change and removing algae), and saw that it has lots of little yellowish threads around the polyps. Any ideas what this is? I've never seen my duncan do this before.

I thought the same thing, but none of them ever moved. They looked like little clusters of tiny threads, or maybe even eggs. I'm going to check back later today and see if they're still there.

I had some of those on a 20 head colony. In 3 weeks all the heads just came off. Lost the entire colony.

How do they look today? Mine looked just like yours. The heads were retracted and never extended again, just started melting away and all that was left was those yellow squiggly looking things. Also happend to a colony of dendrophylia. I guess dipping them couldn't hurt???

had the same in my 150 head colony- looked pretty bad for a while. I have it in g ood flow and under a 250W and it recovered.
It still has a few of these yellow lines- like digestive filiments but not many and they done seem to affect the coral- gd luck |

The colony has over 50 heads on it, and doesn't seem to be too effected by these things. It still eats like normal, etc. It's had the filaments for maybe a month or two now.
Do we think they're some part of the coral itself? If that's the case coral rx might do more harm than good.

Yeh I think it may be something irritating the coral- I looked at them when it was first a problem and it didnt look like slugs, it was quiet odd.
Is your duncan also a table ( ie flat ) colony? or a branching tree type? |

It's a branching tree type. Could it be the clowns that are hosting it?

Could be, my clowns started hosting an elegance and killed it within 1 month. The constant presurre of the flesh against the skeleton slowly killed the elegance. Know they host a colony of xenia.

When I had a duncan in my tank I would also see those yellow squiggly lines on occasion. I think it is just coming out of the coral due to stress it might be under. I had the tentacles on some of them touch frogspawn and the tentacles retracted and the yellow filaments showed up. I moved it and within a day or two they were gone and it was back to looking healthy.
Think it just might be stressed out. |

its definitly part of the coral- Mine had a few flat worm on ( harmless ) I gave it a quick rinse in RO water to remove them and today there is a lot of yellow threads...
It will be fine again in a few days. It did the same when I last moved it to another tank on the same system but with different lights. |
