What would be cheaper to run!!!

2-250 watt metal halides or 8- 54 watt t-5's
for hydro purposes only

You will use slightly less electricity with the t-5, but pay more every time you replace 8 bulbs as opposed to 2.

The bulbs also have a shorter life span the t-5's that is.

Im not sure what you actually mean here, its worded a little confusing

T5's have a longer usable life than metal Halides do.

They are about the same. I have seen Grim post that about 10-12 months is the ideal times to replace T5s. Halides usually get around the same, unless they are being overdriven.

For electric only, 8 hours/day each, the T5s would be cheaper by about $2/month figuring electric rate of $.12/kwh
