Another RO/DI questions plus water softener
I just installed a whole house water softener/filter in a home I just moved into. The lime content in the water here is extremely high and is exhausting my DI really fast. So, I'm going to be plumbing my RO/DI unit after the softener.
Right now I'm using Morton System Saver II and I was told I might look into using the Iron reducing formula as I guess there's a lot of iron in the water here as well. (VERY hard water here). I've also noticed there's all natural solar salt as well. I've never had a water softener before and this is where the question comes in. Does the type of salt used in the water softener effect at all any stage of the RO/DI unit or reduce the life of DI? I have a 5 stage 5 micron sediment / 5 micron carbon / 1 micron carbon / ro / di

As far as which media to use for your water softener, from what I have read the decision should be made on the cost of the media. I don't believe the media used will make any difference on the stages of your RODI system. Using the softeners will prevent scale from forming on your RO membrane which will make the membrane last longer.
As far as iron in your water, the iron is hard on RO membranes as well and removing it will increase the life of your membrane.
