Canon 100/f2.8 vs. Canon 70-200/f2.8

My tank is 48 x48 x 24. My goal is to take good macro shots as far back as the back wall, but also a few inches from the front glass.

1) Would a Canon 100/f2.8 get the job done?

2) Aside from the enormous jump in price, would there be a draw back to the 70-200 versus the straight 100?

I'm an intermediate level photographer and am using a Canon Rebel T1i plus I have Photoshop CS 8.0.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Joe

The difference between the two, for tank photography, is minimum focus distance. Both are great glass but the 100 does macro focusing so you get higher magnification.

Just started the cycle on a new 48x48x24 cube...

Got pics of your tank?

I bought last week a Canon macro 100mm and still haven't been able to get good pics out of it

Thanks guys.

I actually thought I sent a reply to this thread this morning, but I guess I didn't hit the send button . . .

Anyways, I decided on the Canon 100/f2.8, and of course I have pictures of my tank . . . just nothing "wow" yet, but maybe with the new lense. Thanks for askin'

Joe

nice glass for both great choice and nice tank. I love the color of bulbs.

Beautiful tank! I'm sure you'll love the 100mm macro, it's a great lens.
