that's a lovely rhomboid! very beautiful.
the laboutei looks like a female and it's so cute! the filamented looks to me like a hybrid. (flavianalis x filamentosus). this hybrid is very common and can at times be even more common than the parent species. the tail is double emarginate instead of lyretail like in the real filamentosus. and often the edges will be bright red where the lunated filaments grow out from.

Right now, the Filamented has taken refuge in the monti cap colony I have. The flame wrasse was bothering the Labouti and Filamented a little bit yesterday, but he calmed down by the end of the day. The plans are to get a female Flame wrasse next week hopefully.

I loved the coloration of the Labouti, which is why I jumped on it when DD updated their site. Most are more purple from what I've seen, so the yellowish look attracted me to him.

males and females of C. laboutei look almost similar unlike other species of cirrhilabrus with very distinct dichromatic appearance in sex. and i've always had trouble differentiating female and male labouteis and i usually go by size and which one is more colourful.
hehe sorry for the confusion. after looking at the picture again i agree with LADD that it is indeed a male. perhaps a smaller one. the flasher, i'm pretty sure it's a hybrid. here's two pictures of my hybrid flasher and one of a pure blood flasher from the solomon islands. the tail is double emarginate for the hybrids. ![]() ![]() ![]()

but at the end of the day, they are all gorgeous and i agree with you. i really like the yellow on the laboutei compared to the purple that other specimens have.
i hope you enjoy all your fairy wrasses! they're my favourite genus and it's really enjoyable collecting them and watching them display!

Nice, thanks for the info, much appreciated. So I got a hybid huh. haha. I hope that I get to see him swimming around today. He was out and about yesterday, but then was chilling out in the monti cap for the rest of the night, even when I fed. Some shrimp made its way into the cap, so I saw him eat a few pieces.
New tank, new environment so hopefully he'll make his way out ![]()

When I put the first three in the tank, my bluejaw trigger was showing his stuff, swimming around with his pectoral fins stretched out. He's a baby though.

a trio of flashers or fairies will certainly be a joy to watch.
i have a spawning pair of C. bathyphilus and i'm considering turning this pair into a harem. the male is gorgeous, as with most fairy wrasses, when flashing. i encourage you to get the female flames if you really want to and can. that way you might get to see the male strut his stuff more!

Yeah, I have my fish guy getting him for me. Since I originally requested a pair, and the wholesaler didn't have one, they are going to give me the female for the rest of the pair price, so only $30 for her.
I actually had a McCoskers on my DD order that came in yesterday, but he didn't make the overnight trip. I was bummed.

You will learn a lot from Lemon. He knows his wrasses. But not only wrasses, he knows a ton on most species. He's the fish guru. LOL

rudie kuiter's book on wrasses is a good one and certainly helps alot. also i've learnt alot from Dr. hiroyuki tanaka, who is an expert on cirrhilabrus and paracheilinus. i learn alot of things regarding angels from copps, by reading his posts here. but i do love rare fishes alot and i search alot about them. and in my searches i've come across many obscure fishes and interesting information that i like to share when the opportunity arises. i'm glad to be part of this forum where there's tons of new things for me to learn! things that the forum in my country cannot offer ![]()
