LTA and peppermint shrimp
All,
I have a pretty bad aipstasia issue in my 40B that hitchkiked in on some rocks and got out of had quickly. I am awaiting delivery this monring of my peppermint squad to try to take care of this. My concern is that I have a large LTA in there that is about 10" across and seems to stay hungry. Are they known to eat live shrimp? I put a couple in this tank before and they simply disappeared. I have a 10g qt set up and plan on putting them and the affected rocks in it until they are cleaned up - just in case. I do however want to eventually put them into the DT. 2nd question - Will Percula clowns host in a LTA? Mine new one seems to like the frogspawn better?

To the best of my knowledge, my LTA's have never captured/eaten a shrimp.

Thats good to hear! I have been reading a little more about the peppermints and they seem to be a little overly agressive one the aipstasia is gone and have been reported to eat some LPS and Polyps. I will keep my eyes on these guys. I will keep them in the 10g QT with the LR that is covered in Aipstasia until it is gone and then keep flipping the rock until all my rock is clean. Then I can spead them out over my 4 DT and my LR tub.

I would be more concerned about the peppermints bothering the anemone.
In the past my SI percs were hosted by an LTA -- though they did lose all of their black during that time. 80% of it has returned since I sold the LTA.

I was told this afternoon that Brazil Peppermints will eat it, and Florida ones, are hit and miss. Not sure but My two haven't touched my aptasia in the whole week I have had them. So I X'd the Aptasia and will await further growth. Perhaps they will eat it then.

I wouldn't worry about the anemone eating the shrimp as mine even seem to stay away from my corals. the first night I put them in my tank, one touched my green stylophora and jumped back like he got shocked or something. Mine have been devouring my aiptasia. I don't know if I got lucky, but it worked for me!

L. boggessi and L. wurdemanni are your usual "peppermint shrimp."
The worse I've seen them do is pull food out of a freshly fed coral - ie, an acan or duncan. Never seen them eat polyps, but I've heard they'll nip if they're hungry - so don't let them get that hungry. As for the anemone eating the shrimp, I've got no experience on that.

Lots of people host clowns in frogspawn and don't have a nem at all. They seem to like that stuff.
