Spaghetti worm - no they don't all like the sand. Maybe most don't.

It is most definitely a spaghetti worm, maybe even a couple of them, which shouldn't be a problem. Mine seem more likely to live in the sand (75%) but healthy ones can live on rocks as well (25%). I assume by now it has moved someplace? In the picture it looked like it had been 'disturbed' or forced to move.

I'm going to the Keys over the 4th and hope to bring home one of the bigger varieties of spaghetti worm (6-8" long white tentacles) to set up in my anemone tank. There is a really big one that has kind of a translucent blue/green tentacles that can reach out 18-24" from the center. It's very cool to see in the backwater reefs of Florida Bay.

I tried to bring one home the last time we were in the Keys and with all the silt and sand I stirred up getting the worms tube out of the rock and sandy bottom, it managed to slip away unnoticed and left me with an empty tube! Little stinker! We don't see these out on the better reefs, just around small islands (usually near channels that provide some current) on the Gulf of Mexico/Florida Bay side of the Keys. If I collect either type of spaghetti worm I'll post it here.

Ron

It depends on the species. Some burrow in the sand and others build their tubes on rocks.
