New TV series about fish

I saw a commercial today for a new show on Animal Planet called Tanked. I think it said the show premieres on August 18th. Looks interesting, I hope it turns out to be a good show and has a positive impact on our hobby.

I'm predicting it's gunna cause a surge of people getting into the hobby, sortof like "Finding Nemo" did. We're gunna have to ramp up our efforts to help educate people and keep them hooked. Everybody should have a fish tank! well, for the most part

Finding Nemo is what came to my mind too. I hope this show is more educational. You are right, the forums will probably be busy! I hope the RC servers can handle it.

In the commercial they previewed the making of a classic car into an aquarium. I guess it could be interesting to have a Overhaulin type spin on aquariums!?

If you go to their website they make all sorts of crazy aquariums. Looks like a really interesting show.

From what I got out of the preview I watch, no education value, but still looks interesting.

Will have to check it out, but I am more interested in the educational side of reef keeping then just the making a cool display tank

I don't think we will have a bunch of newbies but I think people who already have an interest in tanks will watch the show. Mostly people who probably have FW tanks and have always wanted to try SW but haven't due to cost or they think it is too difficult. I think the show will make it look easier and we might have a lot of people converting over from FW to SW.

That's just my guess but no one really knows how this will play out.

I have to admit.. I got REAL excited when I saw the commercial!!

It starts on Sunday here!! yAy!! I can't wait to see all the different fishies, inverts, setups, etc

Hope its a decent show!!

showed my wife the video and she said he's probably still sleeping on the couch for saying the mop handles were "special" shark sticks

Well I will have to say that I was sitting on the couch with my wife having a jack and coke when I saw the preview and I got really excited. Did a little research on the Discovery website and made the determination that I will probably check it out, but I surmised that there would be little to no educational value. I kind of look at it like an American Chopper or Deadliest Catch...interesting show, but couldn't go build a bike or fish for crab just because I watched the show. I guess my point is that I hope people don't think that they can raise a tank just because they watched a show about cool looking tanks.

Running 40g breeder w/20L sump is currently acting as the QT.
