DSB in sump good enough or waste of time?

I have a section in my sump about 14"x12" that Im thinking about throwing in a dsb. Tank is 120 gallon. Will it be a waste of my time putting a dsp in there or is that big enough that it will help? The display tank will have a sand bed of 2 inches more or less in places.

I think it would be a waste of time. A DSB with those dimensions is not really going to do much for a fully stocked 120 gallon reef tank IMO. I would go barebottom in your sump, maybe grow some chaeto for nutrient export and focus on keeping the 2" of sand in the display tank clean.

It's hard to say for the amount of space and I'm not a full DSB expert yet. But if you have the extra sand, than proceed with the RDSB at 6". Just don't spend the $$ just to have it. But the chaeto for nutrient export is also a great idea and will do a great job for that amount of space. PODs will grow like crazy

Wish you the best on your adventure

I have a 120 with 55 sump and did a 5" DSB in about the same space. Fantasy I've noticed a huge issue or help with it. I have cheato in there as well and the pods grow like crazy in there. Not the worse idea, just not sure the benefit.
