Time to upgrade my flow

I currently have a hodge podge of powerheads in my 180 and I would like to clean it up and upgrade to a couple vortechs. The tank is a standard 180 with corner overflows, 2 island scape with a lot of SPS, soon to be even more. I currently have a wavemaster hooked to a pair of koralia 5's and an 8. I had a 3rd 5 but its out for repair. I also have a couple maxi jets with the big sureflow kits on them for 2100 gph each.

I'd like to stare with 1 MP40w es and get a 2nd later on. If I was to start with 1 mp40, what should that replace? will a pair of 40's alone be enough for my tank?

Thanks,

~Will.

Depends on what you want to keep, 2x40's may be enough flow for a softie or mixed, but just two may be hard to aim w/out having any dead spots.

in my personal experience two mp40s will not be enough for your tank. when i was shopping for flow, i was looking into twp mp10's. mainly because of price. i used to run with 3 koralia #4 and was advised i would not be happy with two mp10s. i pulled the trigger and bought two mp40's and am very pleased with the water movement i get. but i have a 120g 4x2x2 tank and anything larger would, in my opinion require maybe another mp40 , oh and i just have some softies and some lps. i would not consider having sps with my two mp40s in my tank, yet alone your bigger tank. .....i do have a monster leather toadstool ( maybe 18 inches wide by 24 plus" deep blocking my flow)....just my 2 cents

got 1 mp40wES on the way, and I'm half way to a 2nd one. I have an issue with my tank tho, it sits 2.75" off the wall, so I cant add on a 3rd mp40 on the back glass (dry side wont fit). the glass is 1/2" thick, so i'm not sure if an MP-10 will work. some say they do, others say they dont.

I have a couple modded maxijets and a koralia evo kicking around . . . if the 2 MP40's wont be enough alone for an sps setup, what would be my best option for additional flow?

lol, 1 of the 2 softies I have left is a monster toadstool with an 18+ inch disk

i would get rid of the maxi jets first and use the k5 and 8 for the dead spots
eventually have 2 mp40s with 2 korilas getting dead spots

only problem with that is I was going to sell the big koralias and the wavemaster to help pay for the 2nd mp40.
