Led question
I plan on upgrading to led lights over the holidays. I want to get a marineland 48-60 in. Double bright led. And a 24-36 in. led reef capable led lights witb the integrated timer. Would this work or shoild i get something different. If i got something different i would prefer that them to be led and them to rest on top of the tank. Also if u do find something else it should be around the same price. Thanks for any advice.

Right around what they both cost about 500 for both is what the combined price is i think.

I dont think the Marineland LEDs are suitable for corals. Check out Ecoxotics. I run them on 90g and have incredible growth. If you do go this route, make sure u get a dimmer.

If it's the same Marine land I'm thinking of and it does sound like it base on price. Dpon't waist your money if you planning or have corals like LPS or SPS. It's fine for FOWLR.

That's an excellent LED, some other brand you can look at Kessil and AquaIllumination Sol.

rapid led. If you know how to solder it can cost you less than $300 for a nice spectrum able to grow anything.

24 x 12, around $500?
IMO Rapid or a 20 inch Razor would be perfect, I think RB just came out with a controllable fixture too. |

For 500 you can find alot better leds for that price. Especially if you can DIY. But I think RapidLEDs even now has solderless kits. If you can glue stuff and connect wires, that could save you alot of money.
I wouldnt go with Marinelands unless it was just a FOWLR. |

1like everyone else has said from what i heave read about the marineland LED's is that they aren't worth wasting the money on them but to go the little bit extra mile and go with something a little bit nicer.

I have been using this LED light set (75W) for the past 3 months, and I'm very happy with it. For my 65g tank I'll need 2 of them so I just ordered the 2nd one which is on the way. I have a green carpet anemone under it which is doing great. It puts out a lot of light. No dimmer though.

Not really. I think a lot of people confuse the blue spectrum that is part of the LED with moon lights. That shouldn't be the case. The Ecoxotic Panorama Pro lights I use for example, are 445 nm / 12k 2 to 1 (blue / white) and are meant to run in an operable mode that would simulate daylight. I had read somewhere about the blue spectrum being most important, but I could be getting that wrong. Moonlight LEDs are simply for effect... you can get a $10 Tru Lumen module for that.

I have a led question as well:
I am working on a reef (mixed lps and sps) tank depth is 24 in. How are sps growing under leds, I am looking at running to SOL units over my tank. Any thoughts? Trey |

I ordered the Marineland reef capable 48" about a year ago ($425) and have had excellent results. I have an established 75 Gallon with lots of soft corals and a very large carpet anenome. This system has been up and running for a year with the Marineland lighting by itself resting right on top of the tank. Great color, my zoo's have spread out and multiplied quite a bit, only downfall is I wished I would have waited and ordered the unit with the built in timer. I know everyone's experience is different, just wanted to share.
