Question What is the best way to defrost frozen fish food?

Should I leave it sitting on the counter in a container and let the ambient temperature defrost it?

Should I place it in luke warm water and dump the whole contents into the tank?

Would straining the oils or liquid from the already defrosted food be better for the tank and would not straining it affect the balance in the tank?

This is mostly a question for saltwater enthusiasts!

I defrost mine in a small cup of tank water or RO/DI water. I then add a small amount to the tank via a pipette. The exact amount you add depends on how many fish you have to feed. I wouldn't dump the whole contents into the tank ever though. If you feel so inclined you can rinse the defrosted food in RO/DI water to remove any excess nutrients before adding to the aquarium.

We have a small tupperware container just for the frozen food. After we feed the tank we put another little frozen block in the container and let it sit in the fridge overnight and then when its feeding time again, we use a little water from the tank to defrost it and then feed a little at a time with a "Julians Thing" syringe or a pipette depending on who we are feeding until the fish eat it all.

I use some tank water and a SOLO plastic cup to thaw out what I need. Sometimes I'll drain off some of the liquid, but then feed small amounts to the tank.

Every so often I replace then replace the cup to keep it fresh.

I sometimes don't bother defrosting my food (Larry's Fish Frenzy), and both my puffer and Foxface never seem to mind. Like others, though, I'll usually just defrost it in a cup of tank water. Not much of a tip, but I use the plastic cups that you see on the top of Pepto bottles and cold medicine. Perfect size for my tank, and easily cleaned after each use.

+1 medicine cup. Put a cube in the cup, fill with tank water, let sit on the tank for 20 minutes, dump in the tank.

I defrost mine in a small plastic cup, and flush it with tank water until the remaining fluid is clear, and then feed.

I put the frozen food in a fine net an rinse under water and squeeze the excess water out. I then soak the food in a tuperware container with tank water, aminos and garlic (just enough to coat the caps of the bottles) and let soak for about 30 min

I just put the entire frozen block in the tank. My clowns love to play with it. No ill effects from this practice.

I use a small candy dish, defrost with tank water and dump it all in. I cut the frozen to the amount I need beforehand.

Thanks for the feedback! Would you be able to take a brief survey on the frozen food? Here is the link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YXMZ8WM

I just stick a small chunk of frozen food on my powerhead and let it do the rest.

i defrost in a cup with tank water, then use a turkey baster to suck it up and squirt it onto various corals, what ever food blows off, the fish eat.

I have an old stainless steel Espresso filter that I put in a little Tupperware cup.

I fill it a little bit with tank water then throw the food in. after a few minutes Ill check it swish it wound, strain it then put the espresso filter in the tank and wash the food out into the tank then just dump the tank water i used to rinse down the drain.

I did the net thing before this but it was kind of a pain. this i simple and easy and Im sure you could find a small filter cup like this at any home store or target or walmart

i have a syringe that fits about a quarter block of frozen cube in it easily, so i stick the block chunk in there, then suck up tank water and leave it set there to thaw.
