Puffer dead. Will everything die?
My puffer has been a bad look since I got him. Don't know what kind of disease it is. I suspect parasites. Yesterday he was very weak, just laying against the rock work in the middle of the day. I tried to get him, but he barely slipped away from the net and headed for the rocks. Now I haven't seen him since and pretty much expect him dead. Is it worth pulling out 40 pounds of rock at least, which is the entire left side of my set up to get him out? I heard how poisonous they are and i'm afraid that some of it will poison the tank, more than just ammonia and nitrates will.

I would try to get him out, if possible.

Things is, I have to move a lot of rock and i'm afraid I will get all kinds of nasty things out in the water column.

Any nasty things you put out into the water column by moving rock pales in comparison to a dead fish rotting in your tank. I'd chalk this up as a personal experience lesson on why QT is a good idea, whether he's already dead or not.

Pull up your panties and get it out...leaving it is the worst of your sucky options.

I hope that things are going okay now. You might want to run a bag of carbon for a few days to suck out any leftover nasties from your water.
