Ammonia Rising In QT! Help?!!

I have a Midas Blenny and a Chromis in my 10g qt. They are both doing fine and eating well. Before them I had a royal gramma in there for 4 weeks. He is now in the DT. QT has been cycled for a long time. Just got a 1.2 reading with my Red Sea test. Did a 30% water change 3 days ago. Have an hob Aqueon filter and a power head in the qt. Never changed out the sponge or bio cylinders in the filter. Don't know why the ammonia has crept up. Been taking out as much waste as possible during water changes. Is 1.2 dangerous???

Prime or amquel will make the ammonia in the water not dangerous to fish. The biospira might help but not fast.

Prime will "neutralize" the ammonia. But you may still read some on your test.

PRIME is the name of the product. buy it and always have some on hand. by "neutralizing", it means taking the harm out of ammonia. It does NOT remove ammonia. Just makes it less harmful to fish. You will still need to do large water change to remove ammonia.

BIO-Spira is bacteria in a bottle. It will basically help you cycle your tank again. but it will not help your fish right now.

Feed a little less. 1.2ppm after that short of a time is a lot of ammonia. And keep up with water changes in the future, 25-50% no less than every other day is not too much.

sounds like something died...

if using prime or amquel make sure you have good surface agitation or use an air stone as they things take O2 out of the water as they work.

make sure to remove the sponge/filters from the HOB before you dose with Prime or anything else for that matter.
