Jebao RW-4 or 8?

I was thinking about getting 2 new power heads for my 37gal. Was curious if any one has Jebao's rw-4 and what kind of output they have. Thank you!

I had 2 RW4s running full tilt in my 40B along with a Maxijet 950 and scrapped them all for 2 RW8s run at ~60% with one of the 4s getting a pocket in my rocks. Much happier with the 8s. I also like flow.

I'm of the opinion that it is better to have power on reserve than barely or not enough.

On a side note, the unassigned RW4 makes a great standalone pump in my 15g desktop...

Cool, thank you Toothy. That's kinda what I was feeling. I'd rather have too much and scale it back some. If you look at my signature I have 5 power heads and it is just barely enough so I was a bit skeptical. My goal is to get it down to maybe 2 or 3 to cut down on heat and electricity while getting some more control over the type of flow. Thanks.

Don't underestimate the RW-4, especially in a smaller tank! I've got two in a 34"l 56g and they are pushing a lot of water!

Local friend bought two RW-8's to go in a 55, but could only run one at a time, and then only on the lowest setting.

Either way, I also recommend you look into the JBWave aftermarket controller. Plug two RW's into it, and you gain a HUGE amount more controllability. Mine change wave patterns every 10 minutes, ramp down a little at night (by clock, not light sensor) and run self cleaning cycles, all automatically.

I have 2 Rw-8's in my 120 and have plenty of flow. Agree with Oldbones here, don't underestimate them in the smaller tanks.

I have 2 RW4s in a 33" 40g dt. If I have it full and time it right, I can get the water to splash out. Tank is rimless and water level is 2" from top

I have two rw 8's in my 30x30. One is at 3/4 power and the other one is under half power. I couldn't be happier!

I have two rw-4s in my 48" 55g....

While placing them facing each other on each end, I can produce a 1" standing wave at 100%, any other setting just isn't enough flow.

IMO get two rw-8s and scrap the oem controllers for a jbwave.

I have 1 RW - 8 in my 55. I purchased two but the two combined is just way too much flow. The one can push water out of my tank if I set it right.... You'd be fine with the 4's in my opinion.

I have a single rw4 in a 40b and it is FAR from enough flow. I am considering getting an rw8 to supplement the rw4.

What are the dimensions of your 37g? The shape of the tank makes a big difference in flow characteristics.

This the new RWs have a very wide strong flow. This is probably why one RW - 8 creates such a big wave in a thin 55 gallon but the RW - 4 needs to be on full in a wide 40 breeder..

I feel like 2 RW-8s would be too much for you. Maybe try mismatching: 1 RW8 and 1 RW4. I'm telling you I couldn't use both my 8s in my 55 unless they were both on lowest setting and even then my sand was going everywhere. (I still had sand then now BB)

30x12x23... That's a tall tank, but pretty shallow front to back. Honestly, I think an RW-8 will be way overkill in that tank. I still would recommend two 4's, either one at each end facing each other, or both on back wall, facing the front glass but at opposite ends. Much depends on your aquascape as well.

Is it an SPS heavy tank, mixed reef or mostly LPS?

Can we see some pics?

You can give it a shot. You might be okay on a low setting. Might be overkill though. The 8s are some powerful wide flow pumps.

Can't post a pic from my iPad for some reason. Maybe someone has a solution to that. Ha. I have a mixed reef. Lps and sps grow relatively well, softies not so much. I have 2 islands, one on each side towards the back. Each about halfway in height of the tank. I have enough room for a hydor to flow behind them down the length of the tank and room on each end from the glass. I Specifically placed them this way for flow and cleaning. Currently have 3 heads blowing lengthwise across the back and 2 right front mid high blowing lengthwise on the front. Creates a nice gyre type flow with some randomness from bouncing off the rocks. I can see the sps polyps dance from the flow high, and my lps on the sand bed get a little sway.

Anyone who gets these and is worried about excessive flow, just get a jbwave. It gives you pin point control and let's you oversize so you don't have to worry about buying new pumps when it's time to upgrade.

One RW-8, with the factory controller, in that 37g tank is going to create a heck of a gyre all by itself. Even on the lowest setting. If I'm wrong, I'd be surprised.

It looks like Im leaning towards the rw-4s. If people with a 55 have too much flow it will definitely be that way for me. That JBWave looks awesome. Might have to get that also.

I have a standard 55g with two rw-4s I wish I had got the 8s.

With the JBwave you can put them on 1% output if you want. Super accurate device.
