Owner Thread: Aquamax Q-2 Skimmer

Hi all,
Wanted to start an owner thread for the Aquamax Q-2 skimmer. A simple place we all can share experiences and add value where we can.

I'll start:

Today I received my order from MD. The skimmer came in a previously opened box, and the product box was seriously damaged. This damage was to the product box and not the shipping box. I'm at a lost as why MD would ship out in this condition.

On to first impressions.
Having owned the coneS before the Q-2 I was expecting the same quality. Unfortunately I don't see it. The plastic seems to be very thin and I expect it to break up quickly. The neck has a seem to it that is not 100% sealed. I would expect that bubbles and water would escape from this location. Lastly, I think the bubble plate fits very loosely. This would probably detach during use.

I don't know what else to say at this point and not sure I'll keep it.

So if you own it already convince me to trade it in and I've the Q-2 another try.

Hi Settings,

Thank you for your feedback. The skimmers are shipped to us in pallets. Unfortunately, there are sometimes minor cosmetic damages on the cardboard shipping box. In these cases, our shipping team is instructed to inspect the product to make sure there is zero damage to the product prior to shipping it to our customers. We do work very hard to make sure all products we ship to our customers are new and unused. If there is any signs of use at all, or if there is any damage to the skimmer, please let us know and we will be happy to take care of the problem.

In regards to the skimmer itself, all AquaMaxx skimmers use very high quality cell-cast acrylic. The thickness of the acrylic on the Q-Series is the same as the CO-Series and EM-Series so that has not changed.

As for the neck, it is where the cylinder neck meets the cone-shaped riser so there is a small lip (about 1/8"). It is a glued seam and should be 100% sealed. We have not had any reports of the skimmer leaking from this glued seam. AquaMaxx has found that having the cone-shaped riser helps to concentrate the foam and helps improve efficiency when compared to a standard collection cup that is completely cylindrical. Design of some protein skimmer collection cups have 'lips' up to 1", so the impact of an 1/8" lip would be minimal.

A couple of us here at the office use the Q-Series skimmers and have been very happy with them. If you have any questions, definitely feel free to email us to give us a call.
