Help! White spot on Regal Tang
Hi guys,
Please bear with me as I'm new here! After returning home from work today I noticed my Regal Tang is covered in white spots, I've also noticed there are some on a few rocks and crabs shells. The tang doesn't look great, swimming on its side, the other fish in the tank are crowding round it almost knowing it is sick. I had the water tested at the weekend and everything was ok, did a water change on Saturday. The tank has way more algae in it too at this stage after a water change. I've said a lot but hopefully someone can advise me! Thanks |

It sounds a lot like ich (parasite), can you post a picture?

If the tang is distressed and 'swimming on its side' then the white spots on the fish and the rocks could simply be sand particles; however, the regal is one of the most suceptible fish to ich, so most likely that.

Need to put him in a QT and start treating him.
If there are other fish in the tank, they also need QTd and treated. You need to leave the tank fallow before reintroducing them to ensure the parasite is eliminated in there as well. I can't remember the time but it's somewhere around 9 or 10 weeks.

If your pictures are over 2mg in size you need to reduce them. I use Microsoft Paint and reduce by 50% then save and you will be able to post them.
Everyone that has a Windows computer has Paint.

A free Photobucket account will automatically size the pix for web use, and store them in convenient albums for reference. I would concur --- go to the fish disease forum on RC and read up on treatment for ich.
