Best Hang on back skimmer
Hey guys, in your opinion, what is the best HOB protein skimmer out there for a heavy stocked 55g tank?

had an MCE600 several years back and it skimmed great. Only issue was the aquabee that came with it (aquajunk). The skimmer pulled some nasty stuff though, but i feel they are way over priced.
I've run a few from remoras & warner marine, to bermuda and Deltec. the best i have ran was the warner marine (not made anymore). the aquamaxx (AM) is the closest to the WM design and they have bumped up the improvements (sicce/bubble plates etc). the Octos aren't bad either. i'd check out the reviews and ask around about the AM HOB 1.5, the AM coneS HOB and the eshopps PSK100H. Tivo

Deltec or Reef Octopus make a great HOB skimmer.

Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll check them out. Leaning towards the Eshopps
HOB skimmers.

In case you are still looking, l'll have a Super Reef Octopus (SRO) XP 1000S HOB Cone Skimmer available around the 1st of year. Been a great skimmer but moving from 90 gallon Bow Front (sump-less) to new Red Sea Reefer 750XXL and will not need anymore.
Not the prettiest to look at but she pulls her weight in skim-mate on a heavy SPS tank. Sincerely, David |

I didn't mean to bump an old thread. But I am also looking for a HOB Protein Skimmer. Can you please give an update as to what you purchased and from where? Thanks! |
